Shin-Soo Choo's streak of reaching base safely has been snapped at 52 games -- the longest such single-season streak in Rangers history.
Choo went 0-for-4 in Saturday night's 16-3 loss to the Indians in Arlington, Texas. Choo was pulled from the game in the eighth inning after grounding into a fielder's choice.
Manny Machado joined his new club Friday in Milwaukee, where the Los Angeles Dodgers opened a three-game weekend series against the Brewers with a 6-4 victory. He singled in his first at-bat and went 2-for-3 with two walks a couple of hours after addressing the media for the first time in his new blue L.A. threads.
Making his first start in six weeks, Stephen Strasburg was hit hard in the Nationals' loss to the Braves on Friday. He allowed six runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings -- his second-shortest outing of the season -- before getting yanked with two outs in the fifth.
Upon returning to the dugout, Strasburg was greeted by Max Scherzer, who patted his teammate on the shoulder and engaged him in discussion. The conversation seemed to escalate quickly, at which point Strasburg arose from the bench and walked briskly down the tunnel toward the clubhouse with Scherzer following closely behind.
Clayton Kershaw was good on Sunday, amid the Dodgers' series-clinching 5-3 victory over the Angels. But he wasn't Clayton Kershaw, three-time Cy Young Award winner. The Dodgers' longtime ace allowed 10 baserunners and grinded through a 6⅔-inning start that would have looked a lot worse had Kenta Maeda not escaped a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning.
Nationals manager Davey Martinez said he will talk to center fielder Bryce Harper about failing to run out a ground ball in the fifth inning of the team's 4-2 loss to the Mets on Friday night.
"That's a conversation I'll have with Bryce tomorrow," Martinez said.
Rangers designated hitter Shin-Soo Choo reached on an infield single with two outs in the ninth inning of Sunday's 3-0 win over the Detroit Tigers to extend his on-base streak to 47 games.
Shortstop Alcides Escobar wasn't in the Kansas City Royals' starting lineup Sunday and his consecutive games played streak ended at 421, which was the longest active streak in the majors.
It's the first game he missed since Sept. 25, 2015, when Royals manager Ned Yost rested several starters against the Cleveland Indians after his team clinched the AL Central title the night before.
Mark Reynolds followed his 10-RBI performance on Saturday by making his first career pitching appearance on Sunday.
Reynolds was called upon to pitch with two outs in the ninth inning and the Washington Nationals trailing 10-2 against the Miami Marlins.
He retired the only hitter he faced, getting pinch hitter Bryan Holaday to ground out to first base.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have never had a better offensive night than they did Saturday against the San Diego Padres.
David Peralta drove in three runs and matched his career best with five hits as the Diamondbacks set a single-game franchise scoring record with a 20-5 rout of the Padres.
"It wasn't just a good night for me," Peralta said. "It was a good night for everybody."
